19th Mackinac Meet
August 6-9, 2009

This year’s Michigan Wheelmen’s Mackinac Meet has been set for August 6-9, 2009. We hope moving the Meet to August might make it possible for folks attending the Wheelmen’s 42nd Annual National Meet at Saint Mary of the Woods, July 8-12, 2009, in Indiana, to also join us on the Island. If you have yet to attend a Mackinac Meet you will find yourself in a wonderful Victorian setting for your first Mackinac ride! The only motorized vehicles on the Island are the emergency vehicles! The rest of the transportation on Mackinac Island is either by horse drawn carriages and drays, and of course BICYCLES!  Around the Island is an 8 mile paved road on which we will be doing our Century and OHWT rides. While riding around the Island you will find yourself riding through some of Michigan’s most beautiful scenery with views of the Mackinac Bridge and Lake Huron, as well as riding through some of Michigan’s oldest stands of Cedar tress. If you have already been to a meet on the Island, we do hope you enjoy your time there and we look forward to meeting up with you again for another memorable meet.

The Headquarters for the Meet will once again be The Murray Hotel which is celebrating over a century of hospitality on the Island. A block of rooms is reserved for the Wheelmen at a discounted rate. You can contact The Murray at (800) 462-2546 or visit their website at www.4mackinac.com/mh_murrayhotel.cfm to make your reservations. Please do not forget to mention that you are with The Wheelmen to get the discount.

If you’d prefer to stay at one of Mackinac Island’s numerous Bed & Breakfasts or other hotels you can find all of the information you will need with the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau at (800) 454-5227 or visit www.mackinac.com

The Mackinac Island Meet agenda will be as follows: Thursday August 6th, hotel check in, meet registration, and exploring around the Island. You will receive a detailed agenda with times and locations for all activities at registration.  Friday, August 7th, the entury run for highwheels, hard-tired safeties and pneumatic safeties will begin at dawn in front of the Murray Hotel. Also, a special quarter century ride will be offered with the now famous quarter pound of fudge award given to all finishers with 25 or more miles completed.  Saturday, August 8th, an early morning group photo at Marquette Park located directly across from the Mackinac Island Marina. After the photo, the official OHWT will begin. After the ride there will be plenty of time to enjoy all that Mackinac Island has to offer. There will be bicycle games, an awards ceremony as well as our traditional ice cream social and at dusk the popular lamp light ride!  Sunday, August 9th, head for home or continue on your exploration of the Island and the surrounding area. Also, Dave Russell has a bicycle museum in Petoskey that he is planning on having open to any Wheelmen that might like to stop by to visit! It is a short detour on your way down south and is well worth a visit. There will be more information available when you arrive on the Island.
